Dr. Richard O. Michaud is the President and Chief Investment Officer at New Frontier Advisors. His research and consulting has focused on asset allocation, investment strategies, global investment management, optimization, stock valuation, portfolio analysis, and trading costs. He earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Boston University and has taught investment management at Columbia University. He is the author of Investment Styles, Market Anomalies, and Global Stock Selection (Research Foundation of the ICFA, 1999) and Efficient Asset Management: A Practical Guide to Stock Portfolio Optimization and Asset Allocation (Harvard University Press, 1998) as well as many articles.
Prior positions include:
- Director, Research and Development, Acadian Asset Management;
- Director, Research and New Product Development, State Street Bank and Trust Co.;
- Head, Equity Analytics, Merrill Lynch;
- Director, Quantitative Investment Services, Prudential Securities.
He is a Graham and Dodd Scroll winner for his work on optimization, a Director of the "Q" Group, and an Editorial Board member of the Financial Analysts Journal.

Matthew V. Pierce is the Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of New Frontier Advisors. He has substantial practical experience in investments, portfolio optimization, asset allocation, capital market forecasting, financial planning and investment technology. Mr. Pierce is primarily responsible for firm operations, business and strategy, investment compliance, reporting and customer support. Mr. Pierce is a graduate of Harvard College, with continued education from Boston University (Certificate in Financial Planning) and Bentley College (Accounting). Mr. Pierce is a licensed CPA in Massachusetts.
Mr. Pierce's prior positions include:
- President and founder of Farm Street Partners, an application service provider focused on investment advisors;
- Senior Vice President of investment operations, finance, and administration at Acadian Asset Management, an international quantitative investment advisor;
- Supervisor at Coopers and Lybrand, a public accounting firm, where he specialized in small businesses and investment companies.

Robert O. Michaud, the co-inventor of the patented portfolio optimization processes, is the Managing Director of Research and Development at New Frontier Advisors. Mr. Michaud holds a Masters in Mathematics from Boston University and pursued a PhD in finance from the Anderson School of Management at the University of California at Los Angeles before joining NFA. His research interests include risk models, empirical asset pricing, and international finance.
